Tracking all the latest: Pirates clicking in GLC, invite action

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 26, 2023) -- Rocky River Track & Field is a combined 6-0 to start the season. The boys and girls teams swept three Great Lakes Conference dual meets between April 5-19 in and around spring break.

On the boys' side, River took down Elyria Catholic 95-27 April 5, then defeated Bay 84-53 April 12 and Fairview 109.5-27.5 April 19. Senior Majid Abuaun logged an individual first-place finish in each of those GLC meets.

The River girls topped the Panthers 110-18, the Rockets 94-37, and the Warriors 95.5-42.5. Brianna Chaves-Bernal, Morgyn Cruz, Kasey Flowers, Mary Sollars, and Katie Stirm were big point producers for the victorious Pirates.

On April 7, Rocky River competed in the Perkins Pirate Invitational at Sandusky Perkins High School. The River boys took second place in a field of eight teams. The Pirates scored 106.5 points are were edged only by the host Perkins Pirates (122). Rocky River won the 4x800-meter relay (Grant Preto, Guillaume  Carroll, Luke Dorenkott, Abuaun), 1600-meter run (Carroll), 800 (Abuaun), and 3200 (Greg Ganor). The Buccaneer girls took third (of 15) in Sandusky, scoring 71 points. Cruz won the long jump.

On April 21, the Pirates competed in the Royalton Relays. The Double-R took first place in the eight-team co-ed format.

Rocky River is slated to host Westlake in a GLC dual meet Wednesday. That event will mark Senior Day for the River program. On Friday, the Pirates are scheduled to compete in the Avon Reynolds Invitational. The Rocky River girls took third place in last year's Reynolds meet.
