Rapid relays! Double-R takes 1st, 2nd at Ranger Relays

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- The Pirates plundered some gold and silver on Friday. At the Ranger Relays contested at Lakewood Stadium, the Rocky River girls took first place and the Pirate boys took second. [Results]

The Double-R girls clocked 10 top-3 finishes in posting a team score of 104 in the all-events-scored-as-relays meet. The Pirates won the shot put (Doris Kale, Emily Morris, Lilly Newton), discus (Madie Shoaf, Morris, Newton), distance medley (Grace Lavelle, Keira Arnold, Katie Stirm, Sam Coleman), and 4x800 (Stirm, Allie Dewey, Lavelle, Coleman). Brianna Chaves added a victory in the solo 3200-meter run. The field of eight teams on the girls side included Lakewood, Bedford, Berea-Midpark, Cleveland Central Catholic, Fairview, Magnificat, North Royalton, and Rocky River.

Competing on the boys side were Lakewood, Bedford, Benedictine, Berea-Midpark, Cleveland Central Catholic, Fairview, North Royalton, and Rocky River. Rocky River won gold in the 3200-meter (Ethan Hazra, Guillaume Carroll, Majid Abuaun, Grant Preto), and Owen Kleckner took first in the 110-meter hurdles. The Pirates claimed top-3 spots in eight events. The Double-R scored 83 points, a total bested only by Berea-Midpark (92).

Rocky River is scheduled to host Bay in a Great Lakes Conference dual meet Wednesday.
