Pirates raid Fairview for ninth straight "Road" win

RR Football

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 30, 2022) -- Call it Wagar Road, not 210. For a ninth consecutive year. On an idyllic night for high school football, Rocky River defeated Fairview 35-7 Friday. The victory marked the Pirates' ninth in a row in the Battle of Wagar/210 series with their neighbors to the south.

Rocky River (3-4, 2-1 Great Lakes Conference West) rode 35 unanswered first-half points to a running-clock conquest in the 86th all-time meeting between the Pirates and Warriors. Quarterback Julian Patti went 8-for-10 for 81 passing yards, and a strong River running game was propelled by running backs Zach Wilson and Nick DiSalvo.

The River defense also chipped in for a score on a night it held an opponent to single digits on the scoreboard for a second time this season. Fairview (1-6, 0-3) was held scoreless until the fourth quarter.

The contest at James B. Daley Stadium marked the front half of two in a row away from home for the Sons of Blackbeard. Rocky River will play at Westlake next Friday.
