Coleman, DeClerck, Vesy bound for state meet

AMHERST, Ohio -- Rocky River had three athletes qualify for the DI Ohio Track & Field Championships in this week's Region 2 meet hosted by Amherst Steele High School.

Senior Chase DeClerck clocked an impressive second-place finish in the boys' 1600-meter run. DeClerck -- the 2021 Great Lakes Conference champion in the 1600 -- carded a time of 4:23.98, and is now headed for the DI Championships in Hilliard, Ohio (June 4-5, Hilliard High School).

Junior Sam Coleman qualified for a Buckeye State run in the girls' 1600. Coleman -- a three-time state qualifier in Girls' Cross Country -- placed third in the Amherst regional, posting a final time of 5:13.88.

Senior Keira Vesy took second in the girls' 800, finishing just a quarter-second behind winner Valerie Suttman of Medina High School. Vesy posted a final time of 2:20.45 in her qualifying run.

For the region meet, the River boys placed 20th (meet winner Avon). The Pirate girls placed 17th (Medina). Also competing at Amherst Steele was senior Luke Kishna, who placed eighth in the boys' 3200).

At the state meet, the boys' and girls' 1600-meter runs will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. The girls' 800 will take place Saturday at 3:40.
