Street sweep! Pirates take two in Battle of Wagar Road

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River swept Fairview in a Great Lakes Conference home meet on Wednesday evening. The Pirates prevailed, 93-46, on the boys' side and 11.5-38.5 on the girls'.

The boys logged two relay wins and individual golds in the 110-meter hurdles (Owen Kleckner), 100-meter dash (Ed Opris), 1600-meter run (Luke Kishna), 400 (Luke Dorenkott), 800 (Chase DeClerck), 3200 (Jack Miller), long jump (Grant Preto), and discus (Adam Maroon).

The girls earned victories in three relays and individual wins in the 100 hurdles (Ava Meredith), 100 (Sarah Mazzei), shot put (Isabella Davis), 1600 (Keira Arnold), 400 (Emma Convery), long jump (Jaidyn Cruz), high jump (Caroline Sidoti), and 200 (Mazzei).

The meet at Rocky River Stadium marked Senior Day for the Pirates. Sixteen River seniors -- Arnaud Carroll, Chase DeClerk, Nate Furry, Luke Kishna, Charlie Sales, Jed Semaan, Jackson Smith, Seth Williams, Alex Wojnowski, Jaidyn Cruz, Sarah Mazzei, Chloe McIntyre, Amani Salti, Piper Speer, Keira Vesy, and Cecilia Wischmeier -- were recognized in a post-meet ceremony on the field.

The Pirates will return to their home oval Friday when Rocky River High School hosts the 45th Bell Invitational.
